Hornsea 3

A milestone in foundation delivery: Hornsea 3
Track Record

About the project

Hornsea 3, developed by Ørsted, is one of the world’s largest offshore wind projects and represents an important milestone for Cadeler.

With the 2.9 GW project, Cadeler is undertaking full-scope foundation transport and installation, marking a significant step in our development and in how we support our customers.

Hornsea 3 builds on a longstanding partnership between Cadeler and Ørsted, following collaboration on earlier phases of the Hornsea zone. It represents a progression into a broader and more complex scope with Cadeler responsible for installing all monopiles and half of the project’s wind turbines.

This project represents a strategic shift for Cadeler – from contributing to individual installation scopes to playing a more integrated role across the foundation T&I phase. It reflects the increasing scale of offshore wind projects as well as the growing need for specialised vessels and coordinated delivery models capable of handling the next-generation XXL foundations.

Brad2
"Hornsea 3 is an important step for Cadeler as we take on full-scope foundation transport and installation. It’s a project of significant scale and complexity, and one that requires close coordination across teams, vessels and partners.

What stands out is the way we are working together with Ørsted and our partners — openly, collaboratively, and with an ultimate goal of getting the fundamentals right. A large part of our work since the project commenced has been about building the right teams, preparing our vessels and equipment, and making sure everything is aligned before we go offshore.

That preparation is critical, as we aim to manage risk, maintain safety, and ultimately deliver in a consistent and reliable way for our client."
– Bradley Scott, Project Director for Hornsea 3, Cadeler

Film Series - Delivering at Scale

Through a multi-part video series, we follow the planning and execution of Cadeler’s scope for Hornsea 3 – from early engineering and coordination to offshore execution.
Episode 1 - "Preparing for Delivery"

Hornsea 3 Facts:

  • The wind farm will be located in the North Sea, about 120 km off the Norfolk coast, and 160 km off the Yorkshire coast, covering an area of 696 square kilometres.
  • Once the project is completed, it is expected to generate up to 2.9 GW of energy, enough to power more than 3.3 million UK homes.

Reducing risk in Foundation transportation & installation

By working with Cadeler, customers move from fragmented scopes to a more integrated delivery model. Taking on full-scope responsibility reduces interfaces across the project, enabling clearer alignment between planning, engineering and offshore execution.

At the same time, Cadeler’s fleet operates as a flexible and scalable system, providing optionality when conditions change and helping maintain progress under offshore constraints.

Combined with a solution-oriented mindset and close collaboration with project partners, this supports more predictable delivery and reduces overall project risk.
