Beatriz Gomez, Student Assistant - Technical Design

Beatriz Gomez 1

What do you do as Student Assistant in Technical Design?

I go through the requests that are opened by project engineers: I help with either the 2D location-specific drawings or installation/lifting drawings, finishing them with some 3D checks. Generally, I try to help my team as much as possible, often creating drawings from scratch or adjusting them based on the comments I receive from project engineers.

What has been the most interesting thing about your job until now?

Even with a background in industrial engineering and some experience with AutoCAD Inventor 3D (software), I’ve learned a great deal since joining Cadeler. This is my first time working in the offshore wind industry, so I’ve had to adapt and apply my existing knowledge to new environments. Our Head of Technical Design also offers technical courses for newcomers, which helps ensure we’re aligned in how we use the programs and collaborate as a team. Currently, I’m working on the East Anglia WTG installation project. My responsibilities there are very dynamic, requiring me to continuously consider vessel-related factors, coordinate with project engineers, and align with technical specifications.

What makes you feel proud?

I believe Cadeler’s mission is simply fantastic, as we are so focused on sustainability and renewable energy. Besides this, I feel proud to be part of such a great community.

What is the best thing about working for Cadeler as a company?

Definitely the community. I love it; the team spirit makes coming to work so enjoyable, and there are plenty of events that help us bond. For example, when we joined the DHL Relay Copenhagen last month, it was inspiring to see everyone come together outside of work and cheer each other on. Beyond events, people here are always willing to lend a hand and support each other’s professional growth, which makes a huge difference

What is the best thing about being a student assistant at Cadeler?

You have a lot of flexibility as a student assistant in Cadeler. There’s been times when I was quite stressed because of university or was pre-occupied with exams. But my manager and co-workers were so accommodating and helpful. They understand that you’re still a student and need to prioritize your education. At Cadeler, you can successfully balance student life and work life as long as you stay committed and engaged in your role.

What advice would you give to people interested in taking the Technical Design route?

It’s a very niche job and it certainly can be demanding at times. You need to be truly interested in this field and if you are, then you would fit perfectly in our team, as we all share the same passion.
