Cadeler has finished the installation and transportation of offshore wind turbines at Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in collaboration with Ørsted and Siemens Gamesa. With a capacity of 913 MW, Borkum Riffgrund 3 will become Germany’s largest offshore wind farm!
This milestone follows the works at the other Ørsted offshore wind farm, Gode Wind 3. For these two combined projects, Cadeler has led the installation and transportation of 48 Siemens Gamesa 11MW WTGs.
Cadeler’s wind installation vessel Wind Osprey was deployed for both projects. The first of the two projects began in July 2024, after the jack-up vessel had undergone a large crane upgrade. With a lifting capacity of 1,600 metric tons, the new Wind Osprey main crane secured a safe, timely and efficient installation.
The wind farms are located adjacent to Ørsted's other offshore wind farms off the coast of Northern Germany. The combined capacity of the wind farms at Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 will be 1.1 GW and they will power more than a million German households.
The completion of Borkum Riffgrund 3 marks the first time an offshore wind farm will not feature a substation and instead will be directly connected to an offshore converter platform (DolWin epsilon).
